The benefits of donating are the warm fuzzy feelings you get for donating 
And really it's a drop in the bucket for the true cost of running the server. The best we can hope for is to help keep the hardware updated so we can continue having fun. I think it depends on what you donate to what you might receive. Maybe you'll get to spawn things or maybe you'll get a stack of diamonds and golden apples.
